About ASPIRE Communities
Ten communities participated in the ASPIRE project at 2 different levels.
Partner organisations in the 'Core' ASPIRE communities undertook the main activities of the project and produced a Sustainable Energy Action Plan for the relevant community.
'Level 3' communities which were at a slightly less advanced stage of energy planning and participated in the project to learn from and feed into the ASPIRE process, promoted the ASPIRE project locally, with the aim of replicating the process within their own communities
This mix ensured that those communities with greater experience in certain areas of sustainable energy planning or exploitation of renewable energies were able to share their experience and lessons learnt with th less experienced partners. The inclusion of level 3 partners also provided a method of testing that the ‘replicability’ of the ASPIRE model can used by other communities.
Partners
The 10 ASPIRE communities were represented by
11 partners. These include local energy agencies, educational institutions, scientific and technical organisations and consultancies.
The ASPIRE project was co-ordinated by Cornwall County Council, in the UK. (Note: In April 2009 Cornwall County Council and the six second tier District/Borough councils became a single tier adminstration as a Unitary Authority "Cornwall Council")
