The ASPIRE project was launched in October 2006, bringing together a partnership of 11 organisations representing 9 communities across the EU. The project ended on 31 March 2009.
The main objective of the project has been to develop a replicable model for creating ‘Sustainable Energy Communities’ in peripheral areas of the EU. This involved the drafting and adoption of Sustainable Energy Action Plans, and wide engagement with EU citizens and key stakeholders through a combination of education, capacity building and community engagement activities.
Through this process, ASPIRE has sought to demonstrate the key role that energy plays in the economic and social development of communities and how better integration of sustainable energy measures can contribute to overall economic sustainability.
ASPIRE was supported by the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme.
ASPIRE is a partner of the Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign.
